Albers Humanities Festival slated to celebrate Star Wars 40th anniversary

Dickinson State University (DSU) invites the community to attend the 2017 Albers Humanities Festival featuring “The Force Returns: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars,” April 5 – 6 on the DSU campus.

The Albers Humanities Festival is a biannual celebration of the liberal arts in honor of Everett C. Albers, the first of the North Dakota Humanities Council directors.

The festival will consist of panel presentations, a performance and a trivia contest. The full schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, April 5

“The Force is Strong in this One: The Cultural Impact of Star Wars” | Panel

4 – 5 p.m. DSU, Beck Auditorium | Amanda Benedict-Barbian, Corinne Brevik and Kevin Moberg

“Verily, A New Hope: Shakespearean Star Wars” | Performance

7 – 8:30 p.m. DSU, Stickney Auditorium | Jarvis Jahner and DSU students

Thursday, April 6

“You Know It to Be True: Canon, Culture, and Continuity in the Star Wars Universe” | Keynote Presentation

4 – 5:30 p.m. DSU, Beck Auditorium | Dr. Gregory B. Carlson from Concordia College

“Much to Learn, You Still Have” | Trivia Contest

7 – 8:30 p.m. DSU, Student Center Ballroom

All events are free and open to the public and are co-sponsored by Dickinson State University and the North Dakota Humanities Council.
