Alfred Schollmeyer was born July 29, 1932 in Dunn Center, the son of James and Bertha (Dohrner) Schollmeyer. He grew up in the Dunn Center area and attended Longfellow #1 country school. In 1956 he was inducted into the US Army and served his country in peace time Germany. In 1958, Alfred was honorably discharged and returned to the Dunn Center area to begin farming and ranching with his father and brother Joseph. Alfred continued to work on the farm until 2011, when he slowed down due to health reasons.
Alfred and his brother Joseph, enjoyed keeping the Schollmeyer coal mine active for over 80 years. It was one of the oldest active coal mines in North Dakota. He learned the art of stone mason work from his father and could install a foundation without cement. Alfred and his brother, Joseph, were partners all their lives and always stood by each other. They hoped they would be able to leave the community they worked and lived in a better place. Alfred enjoyed listening to music and had an extensive music collection. He was also a HAM radio operator and enjoyed collecting model cars.
Alfred is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Albert, James, Charles, Henry, Louie, and Joseph Schollmeyer and one sister, Lucille Krieger.
