The Dickinson State University (DSU) Rodeo Club, Dickinson Rotary Club, and the DSU Heritage Foundation will have the opportunity to host the inaugural event at the new Stark County Fairgrounds facility located 2.5 miles South of Dickinson on Highway 22.
The Blue Hawk Stampede Rodeo will take place Friday, May 5, with slack at 11 a.m. and a performance at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 6, will feature a performance at 1 p.m. followed by a short go performance at 6 p.m.
“In 2017, DSU Rodeo celebrates 60 years of active competition and more than 30 years of hosting a regional rodeo,” says Dr. Chip Poland, chair of the Department of Agriculture and Technical Studies at DSU. “This long standing tradition of rodeo contributes to the vitality of the university and the region as a whole.”
The Blue Hawk Stampede is the last of 10 regional rodeos within the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Participation in this rodeo is important for those student athletes who are close to qualifying to compete at the College National Finals Rodeo in June 2017.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students grades K-12. DSU students are free with valid ID. Proceeds from this event are split equally between Dickinson Rotary Club and scholarships for the DSU Rodeo Club.
