Assistant professor of nursing Audrey Charchenko was named Dickinson State University’s 2017 Nurse Educator of the Year and now has the opportunity to compete at the state level.
FOR DUNN COUNTY HERALD
The award was developed by the Nursing Student Association of North Dakota, a student run organization comprised of nursing students from institutions across the state, to recognize outstanding nursing educators and to stimulate interest in the profession of nursing educators.
Junior and senior nursing students vote anonymously to nominate faculty members for the award, as they have had more time with each educator. This year, nursing students voted Audrey Charchenko, Lucy Meyer and Analena Valdes as nominees for the ballot. In order to be considered for nomination and to ultimately receive the award, Charchenko, Meyer and Valdes had to possess several personal and professional characteristics outlined by DSU’s NSA chapter.
“We are proud of each of our instructors and their ability to induce learning with all of our students,” stated fellow colleague Teresa Bren. “In the eyes of our students, Ms. Charchenko excels as an educator and we want to take the time to celebrate her efforts.”
Charchenko will go on to compete with other North Dakota recipients at the Nursing Student Association of North Dakota’s State Convention held Feb. 19-21. A board of five judges will review each of the nominees’ autobiographies and letters of recommendation from former and current students. The individual named Nurse Educator of the Year will receive a $100 prize as well as a personalized plaque.
