Community showing hometown support for one of our own

It is no secret that our community has proven many times, in the past, that we can make a positive impact when we have a common cause.

When we heard that one of our young people, Dakota Brekke, had been severely injured in an assault it didn’t take long before plans were being made to come to his aid.

Dakota has attended KIlldeer High School for past few years, graduating this year with the class of 2016.

On July 23rd Dakota was enjoying time with his sister Mariah and best friend Brookelynn, in Turtle Lake when he was approached by two male individuals who began to harass them. With no provocation on Dakota’s part, it then escalated into a brutal assault to him. The attack resulted in several broken bones to his face. The assailants were taken into custody and criminal charges are pending in McLean County.

Dakota has since undergone reconstructive surgery for broken bones to his eye, cheek and jaw. He has also incurred time lost from work.

We are asking for support to help Dakota during this difficult time. There has been an account set up at America Bank Center, as well as a page for him. A medical benefit is being planned on August 27th in Dunn Center with a free-will offering supper, live auction, and dance to be help at DC Pub & Grub. Auction items can be dropped off at American Bank Center in Killdeer.
