Cowboys nab four on all-state football team

The post-season honors continued for four players from the Killdeer High School football team.

A week after being named to the All-Region 4 and the All-Badlands Conference teams, seniors Dillan Jepson, Ty Truchan and Rope Smith, and junior Garret LeMieux were named to the Class 1A all-state team.

Jepson, the Cowboys’  all-purpose running back, and Truchan, a stalwart on the front line, were named to the first team.

Smith and LeMieux  were second-team selections.

The foursome was instrumental in the Cowboys’ 6-3 record this year, which included a share of the Region 4 title.

Despite missing the season opener against Dickinson Trinity, Jepson rushed for 1,075 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 196 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Of course, he often said he wouldn’t be successful without the guys up front blocking and opening lanes for him to run. That’s where Truchan and Smith came in.

LeMieux was the Cowboys’ primary target at receiver. The pass catcher hauled in 24 receptions for 301 yards and three touchdowns.
