Services will be held at 10:00 AM MDT, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Halliday, ND, with Pastor Dorothy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Halliday City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. CDT, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah. David was born on August 22, 1940, in Richardton, ND, to Adolph and Irene (Forster) Walth.
He was raised and educated in Halliday, graduating from Halliday High School in 1958. He attended Dickinson State College and the University Of North Dakota. He was an educator and administrator for 18 years before leaving the profession to join the banking/insurance industry for the next 30 years. Although he left the education profession he never really stopped teaching. In his heart he loved nothing more than sharing his views on a wide variety of subjects, and he was always up for a good joke or a bad one, just ask any member of his morning coffee group. David “retired” from banking but once again never really retired. He could always be found behind a desk with an open chair in front of him for anyone who needed to talk.
In 1977, David married Darlene Starr and together they had three children Sandra, Tammy and Jason. On July 25, 2008, David married Joyce Wegner at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Halliday. With this union he gained another son, Chad, with whom he could share his wisdom and opinions. David had great pride in his community. He was actively involved in many organizations and served on a variety of boards including President of the Commission (Mayor) of Halliday.
David was a municipal judge in Dodge, Zap, Dunn Center and Pick City for many years. He formerly served as Vice President of the North Dakota Municipal Judge Executive Board. He was also a lay minister for numerous area churches. With all his active roles in the community his greatest pride was his family.
David is survived by his wife Joyce, of Halliday; children, Sandra (Jay) Schobinger, Tammy (Ray) Hurt, both of Dickinson, ND, Jason Walth of Lead, SD, Chad Way of Terre Houte, IN; 10 grandchildren, Madison, Zane, JoLea, Jaxson, Tim, Jon, Kaelin, Moriah, Mia and Jordan; two greatgrandchildren, Ethan and Adrian; two sisters, Dorothy Geist of Hazen and Ruth Ann (Paul) Kibler of Omaha, NE; one brother, James (Birdie) Walth of Deerwood, MN; one brother-in-law, Stan Gustafson of Cambridge, MN; mother-in-law, Gertie Wegner of Golden Valley, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
