Local ranchers kicked of the event by sharing their own stories from the area.

Pat Hawkinson shared four short stories about trailing cattle to the railroad in Killdeer along with some interesting things about his young life.

Milton Johnson spoke about the great horse race between Killdeer & Grassy Butte and how racers would prepare for the race throughout the summer.

Rex Cook also told a couple short stories about shipping horses and ranching by Medora.

These three great gentlemen were given a ride around the Killdeer arena while another great cowboy, Neil Hoots, also told his own ranching stories.

The Ranch Rodeo began with nine teams of cowboys from Killdeer, Dodge, Golden Valley, Bismarck, Linton & Watford City. The action was fast and furious as the crowd observed this year’s rodeo events.

Events this year included double team roping/doctoring, team penning, sled race, josting and saddled steer riding.

Cash prizes were awarded to Brent and Bryce Vigen, Kelly Erickson and Justin Duke for first place. Second place went to Tanner Olsen, Ethan and Tate Harris and Garrett Houghton with Adam Wanner, Shawn Mossett, Josh and Chance West taking third place.

The Top Horse went to Shawn Mossett and Top Hand was awarded to Katie Sorenson.
