Dunn County Fair adds new events to old favorites

August 2nd marks the beginning of the Dunn County Fair and Achievement Days.

They are starting out on Friday night this year with the Chili Cook-off and Dress a Doll Contest and Auction at the Buckskin.

A new event this year is a car show at Veteran’s Memorial starting around 9 a.m.

Saturday morning begins at the Rodeo Grounds for the 2nd Annual Dunn County Fair Barrel Racing.  There is an added $2000 for the purse this year. Exhibition racing starts at 10:30 a.m., with the actual Barrel Racing starting at 1 p.m.

For the kids, the Decorate your Bike and Pet Parade starts at the Nursing Home at 3 p.m.  They will parade down the hill to the Rodeo Grounds where the Fish Tank will be set up.  Face Painting and free ice cream bars will be available for the children who attend.

Saturday evening, starting at 6 p.m., brings the Ranch Rodeo featuring Wild Cow Milking, Trailer Race, Cow Mugging, Branding and Doctoring and the Relay Race.  There is a Calcutta with a $500 purse.

Sunday Morning is a 5K Fun Walk/Run at the Golf Course with a Brunch at the Legion Club.

Monday and Tuesday finds activity at the School in the Old Gym for the Open Class and Quilt Show.

If you have not entered the Open Class before, you are invited to bring any of your handiwork, photos, garden produce or anything that you have created to show.

The Quilt Show will be in with the Open Class this year.  All quilts are welcome.  If you have a great old quilt that you love, bring it in to show as well.

Tuesday at 12:30 a.m., is the Pie Contest.  If you want to enter a pie, please have it to the School Cafeteria by noon.  After the pies have been judged, pieces of pie and coffee will be available for sale.
