Dunn County Fair ropes in miles of smiles, 4-H Achievement Days Proves Successful

On August 8-10, Dunn County 4-H had the honor of showing off their hard work by participating in the annual 4-H County Achievement Days.

The Horse show took place on Aug. 9 with Lindsey Johnson from Minot judging the event. The opening events of Equestrian classes had two participants, Iris Dukart and Katelynn Lane. Dukart won Blue Ribbons in Hunt Seat Equitation and Hunter Under Saddle and a red ribbon in Hunter Hack. Lane won a Blue Ribbons in Hunt Seat Equitation and Hunter Under Saddle and red ribbons in Equitation over fences and Hunter Hack.

Dukart was Grand Champion and Lane was Reserve Champion the overall English Class.

Halter Showmanship had six Cloverbuds (5-7 year old 4-H youth) received a participation ribbon including: Irelynn Dressler, Jude Dukart, Kannon Dressler, Kaylee Rohde, Kia Rohde, and Braelynn Wasem.

Preteen Halter Showmanship ribbons and winners as follows: Alayna Dressler (Grand Champion plaque), Chesney Gjermundson (Reserve Champion), Ian Dukart (Blue Ribbon), and red ribbons to Shawna Burnian, Kazanne Gjermundson, Jessica Goetz, Jaycee Heiser, Shelby Lindemann, and Kacee Wasem.

To finish up Halter Showmanship class teen division winners and ribbons were: Iris Dukart (Grand Champion), Katelynn Lane (Reserve Champion), Cole Carrazo (Blue Ribbon), and red ribbons Kaylee Heiser, Skyler Heiser, Bailey Smith and Molly Nies.

Western Horsemenship preteen Grand Champion plaque went to Ian Dukart, Reserve Champion Kazanne Gejermundson, Blue Ribbon Alayna Dressler, and Red Ribbons to Chesney Gjermundson, and Jaycee Heiser. The Teen Division Grand Champion plaque winner was Bailey Smith, Reserve Champion was Katelynn Lane, Blue Ribbons to Iris Dukart and Kaylee Heiser and Red Ribbons to Cole Carazzo, Skyler Heiser, and Molly Nies.

Western Pleasure preteen Grand Champion plaque was won by Kazanne Gjermundson, while Reserve Champion was Chesney Gjermundson, and Ian Dukart won a Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbons to Alayna Dressler and Jaycee Heiser.

Western Pleasure Teen division winners included: Iris Dukart (Grand Champion plaque), followed by Kaylee Heiser (Reserve Champion), Molly Nies (Blue Ribbon) and Red Ribbons to Cole Carrazzo, Skyler Heiser, Katelynn Lane and Bailey Smith.

The Trail Class Preteen Grand Champion plaque winner was Ian Dukart, followed by Shawna Burian (Reserve Champion) Kazanne Gjermundson (Blue Ribbon) and Red Ribbons to Chesney Gjermundson and Jacee Heiser. In the Teen division Trail Class, Cole Carazzo won the Grand Champion plaque, followed by Iris Dukart (Reserve Champion), and Kaylee Heiser and Katelynn Lane (Blue Ribbon), and and Red ribbons went to Skyler Heiser and Bailey Smith.

The Reining Class Preteen Grand Champion plaque winner was Chesney Gjermundson with other Reb ribbons in the class awarded to Kazanne Gjermundson and Jaycee Heiser. The Teen Reining grand champion plaque was won by Iris Dukart while other Red ribbons in the class awarded to Kaylee Heiser, Skyler Heiser, Katelynn Lane, and Bailey Smith.

In Pole Bending, the winners included: Chesney Gjermundson (Preteen Grand Champion plaque), Kazanne Gjermundson (Reserve Champion), and Jaycee Heiser (Blue Ribbon).The Teen Division Grand Champion plaque winner was Bailey Smith while Keylee Heiser was reserve champion and blue ribbons awarded to Skyler Heiser, Katelynn Lane, and Molly Nies.

The Barrel Racing preteen Grand Champion plaque went to Kazanne Gjermundson with reserve champion going to Chesney Gjermundson and a blue ribbon to Jaycee Heiser. The Teen Barrel Racing plaque was won by Bailey Smith with Kaylee Heiser winning reserve champion and blue ribbons awarded to Skyler Heiser, Katelynn Lane, and Molly Nies.

The Ranch Horse preteen plaque was by Chesney Gjermundson and reserve champion was won by Kazanne Gjermundson with other preteen blue ribbons going to Ian Dukart and Jaycee Heiser. Iris Dukart won the Teen Ranch Horse plaque with a reserve champion going to Bailey Smith.

Goat Tying preteen plaque went to Kazanne Gjermundson and reserve champion won by Chesney Gjermundson and Jaycee Heiser winning a red ribbon. The Teen Goat Tying plaque was won by Bailey Smith.

The Ranch Horse Pleasure preteen plaque was won by Kazanne Gjermundson and reserve champion went to Chesney Gjermundson with Ian Dukart and Jaycee Heiser receving red ribbons. Iris Dukart won the Teen Ranch Horse Pleasure plaque with red ribbons awarded to Kaylee Heiser, Skyler Heiser, Katelynn Lane, and Bailey Smith.

To finish up awards for the horse events, the judge picked the Maynard Fritz Horse Award for best showing horse of the day to go to Kazanne Gjermundson and Iris Dukart won Horseman Buckle sponsored by the Dunn County Fair Board as the horseman of the day. This finished up horse events for the 4-H youth and then the next day lead to the livestock show and premium sale.

4-H LIVESTOCK SHOW took place Aug. 10:

Goats started the show with market goat classes; Kacee Wasem won the Grand Champion plaque while Ian Dukart won Reserve Champion plaque.  Other market goat blue ribbons went to Chesney and Kazanne Gjermundson, Tate Norby, and Bailey Smith.

The meat goat Grand Champion plaque went to Megan Dahlen and reserve champion went to Bailey Smith. Other ribbons given out to Meat goats were as followed: Megan Dalen, third place, and blue ribbon in meat doe goat and first place in meat doeling goat; Ian Dukart, Blue ribbon in Meat doe goat and second and third and blue ribbon in meat doeling goat; Chesney Gjermundson blue ribbon in meat doe and in meat doeling goat; Kazanne Gjermundson, second in Meat doe Goat and blue ribbon in Meat doeling; Bailey Smith first place and a blue ribbon in meat doe and first and third place in meat doeling.

In the doe and kid category, the Grand champion plaque went to Bailey Smith while Reserve Champion plaque went to Kazanne Gjermunson. Bailey Smith and Ian Dukart received additional blue ribbons in the category. The Dairy Goat class Grand Champion Ribbon went to Megan Dahlen and the Reserve Champion Ribbon went to Ian Dukart to finish up this class.

To finish up the Goat Class, goat showmanship awards went to Ian Dukart for preteen and Bailey Smith for Teen. The 4-H youth who participated in showmanship also included: Chesney and Kazanne Gjermundson, Tate Norby, Kacee Wasem, Megan Dahlen, Molly Nies, and one cloverbud, Braelyn Wasem, received a participation ribbon for goat showmanship.

Sheep classes followed goats and had Kayla Brew showing a breeding ewe lamb and Faith Norby showing a breeding yearling ewe. The Grand Champion plaque for breeding sheep went to Faith Norby while the reserve champion breeding sheep plaque went to Kayla Brew.

The market lamb class followed with the Grand Champion plaque went to Faith Norby and the reserve champion plaque went to Kayla Brew. Shayly Brew, Kayla Brew, and Tate Norby also received blue ribbons in market lamb class.

The Ewe and Offspring plaque went to Kayla Brew. And sheep showmanship finished the show, with top awards going to Grand Champion Kayla Brew in preteen division and Shayly Brew in the teen division. Other blue ribbon sheep showmanship ribbons went to Tate and Faith Norby.

The Dairy show had one 4-H youth bring Dairy cattle in two different classes of Yearling heifer and heifer. Brayden Klym won both the champion plaque and the reserve plaque as well as the Dairy Showmanship award. One cloverbud, Hailey Dukart, did receive a participation ribbon for showmanship in this class as well.

To finish up livestock show beef cattle were shown. The steer class grand champion plaque went to Faith Norby while the reserve champion plaque went to Ian Dukart. Braydon Klym also received blue ribbons in the market steer class.

The bull calf class had the grand champion plaque winner was Bailey Smith.

In the commercial heifer classes, the commercial spring heifer class saw Bailey Smith receiving first place ribbon and Abigail Harderson with second place ribbon. The commercial spring yearling heifer class had first-place ribbon winner Jayne Krank.

Overall, the Grand champion plaque for commercial beef heifer went to Bailey Smith, and the reserve champion plaque went to Jayne Krank. Iris Dukart then received a grand champion plaque for registered beef heifer as she competed with a spring yearling heifer, and then Bailey Smith received a grand champion plaque for the beef cow-calf pair class. Last up was beef showmanship with Iris Dukart winning teen and Faith Norby winning preteen showmanship awards.

The last event was round-robin showmanship where all the showmanship winners compete to win buckles sponsored by the Dunn County Fair Board and this year the preteen winner was Kayla Brew and the teen winner we Iris Dukart.

After the livestock show final awards were handout out to the winners and the premium sale took place following. The 4-H youth and their families worked so hard to make this a very successful 4-H Achievement Days
