Gertrude Zarr

2Gertrude Zarr, 98, of Dodge, North Dakota, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah with Fr. Jeff Zwack officiating. Burial will follow at St. Martins Catholic Cemetery, south of Dodge.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 PM.
Gertrude was born on May 26, 1916 south of Dodge to Steven and Katherina (Voltz) Duttenhefner. She was raised and educated near Dodge. On November 6, 1939 she married Steve Zarr at St. Martins Catholic Church, south of Dodge. They farmed south of Dodge their entire married lives. On April 19, 2000, Steve passed away. Gertrude continued to live on the farm after Steve passed until May 2012 when she moved into Knife River Care Center where she has since lived.
Gertrude loved flowers and spent lots of time crocheting.
Gertrude is survived by one daughter, Evangeline Schlender of Halliday; three sons, Larry (friend, Diane) of Dodge, Dale (friend, Vicki) of Minot and Duane (friend, Kris) of Coleharbor; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve; one daughter, Delores; two daughters-in-law, Loraine Zarr and Peggy Zarr; two sons-in-law, Robert Sergott and Norman Schlender; and one granddaughter, Christine Zarr.
