Keeping our Service Dogs safe

Killdeer Area Ambulance Service in collaboration with Dr. Kim Brummond, of West Dakota Veterinary Clinic, hosted a free K9 Officer Narcan Training. Officer McKenzie Spack and K9 Abel (Killdeer P.D.), Deputy Fred Whittingham (Dunn County Sheriff Office), Officer Cori Lee (Dickinson P.D.), and Officer Dekas (Beulah P.D.) were in attendance.

Dr. Brummond discussed what to look for in a dog that has potentially been exposed to Opiates while on the job. Dr. Brummond then discussed what Narcan (Naloxone) is, what the dosing is, and what to do after the medication has been administered.

Dr. Brummond then discussed various aspects of K9 First Aid and went over what she believes should be in a K9 officer first aid kit.

KAAS would also like to thank the Invisible Fence Company for donating K9 oxygen masks to every officer in attendance through Project Breathe.
