Killdeer Centennial Celebration Plans Underway!

One Hundred Years! Amazing! Truly something worth celebrating in a grand way!Posted 12/31/13

Most of us have fond memories of attending a celebration—centennial or other  – in their hometown. Stories are told, friendships rekindled, families from faraway states gathered together, and much food and drink consumed.

A good time is had by all and the event is talked about for years to come!

These events are so much fun, but it is important to remember that they do not just happen. It takes dedication, time and hard work. They are truly worthy of what it takes, for what are our communities about if not the people and fellowship.

We are now living in the busiest of times. Everyone seems to be stretched in many directions and reluctant to take on one more responsibility. A handful of people wanted to make sure Killdeer’s Centennial Celebration is a memory- making event, so they have laid the groundwork for a number of activities.

Dates for the event are July 3, 4 and 5, and they have been working with the established annual events to enhance them as well as adding others. A few highlights of the plans the group has underway are for both a youth and adult dance, a car show, a heritage event, a kiddie carnival, a cup cake social, an event honoring veterans, and possibly a drama or program of some type.

So many exciting ideas have been discussed and would be fun to pursue but they need more manpower. In a nutshell – more help is desperately needed! The core group has set up committees so people can choose to work in just one area that interests them.

They are trying to alleviate the idea that if people agree to attend a meeting they will end up running the show!

The next meeting is scheduled for January 7 at 5 p.m. at Killdeer City Hall. Your attendance would be greatly appreciated.

Killdeer is a great town – a community we are proud to be a part of. It would be wonderful if we could all work together to put on a celebration worthy of the fact that it has been 100 years in the making! Let’s celebrate!
