Killdeer Cross Country goes the Distance

Last Thursday, Killdeer Cross Country squared up at the Bowman County Invite at the Sweetwater Golf Course. There was plenty of competition to go around. 

The girls 5k Varsity run included 35 runners and Killdeer’s own Hannah Benz finishing 16th in 23:28.64, Shawnee Hansen finishing 24th in 24:37.66, Danielle Benz finishing 25th in 24:38.41, Jaylynn Hicks finishing 28th in 25:14.84 and Corrie Dobitz finishing 33rd in 27:47.21.

The girls 3k Junior Varsity run included 41 runners and Killdeer’s own Danielle Dobitz finishing 7th in 14:09.58, Gracie Doe finishing 22nd in 16:27.60 and Cami Kuntz finishing 38th in 20:54.91.

Head Coach Nathan Horgeshimer stated, “girls had some good things going on. We are a little better than we started last year. All of them had some signs of good things to come, just need to work on putting together a full race. 7th grade girls did well in their first career race. Dani Dobitz was in the top 10.”

Overall, Girls Varsity came in 6th with an accumulative 126 points and an average time of 25:09.36, while Girls Junior Varsity came in 7th with an accumulative 152 points and an average time of 21:24.63.

The boys 5k Varsity run included 51 runners and Killdeer’s own Stephen Westarp finishing 18th in 19:25.00 and Nathan Sadowsky finishing 43rd in 21:57.21.

The boys 3k Junior Varsity run included 51 runners as well, and Killdeer’s own Jace Andersen finishing 1st in 10:42.52, Owen Dutenhefner finishing 10th in 12:14.17, Isaac Jaggi finishing 30th in 13:43.60 and Clayton Gregory finishing 51st in 15:54.82.

Coach Horgeshimer says, “Boys had a great start to the year. Stephen and Nathan are far ahead of where we started last year and the JV boys had a great race with Jace and Owen finishing top 10 against some stiff competition.”

Overall, Boys Varsity came in 6th with an accumulative 220 points, and Boys Junior Varsity finished 5th with an accumulative 140 points and an average time of 14:25.57.
