Nineteen members of the Killdeer FFA Chapter traveled to Dickinson for the District 8 Leadership Conference on Sept. 28.
The members had a very successful day and should be proud of their accomplishments both individually and team, said David Leier, Killdeer FFA adviser.
Participating in the Creed CDE was Brooklynn Reiss. The Creed is a speaking CDE in which freshman members memorize the FFA Creed, a 5- paragraph statement of belief about FFA and agriculture. Even though she had very little time to prepare, she represented the chapter well and earned a Bronze rating.
Another speaking event is Extemporaneous Public Speaking. Cate Fredericks represented the chapter in this event. This event has the participant pick from a selection of agricultural articles and gives them a half hour to prepare a four-to-six minute speech. Cate did very well and earned a Bronze rating.
Prepared Public Speaking is the counterpart to Extemporaneous. This event requires the participant to come with a prepared speech that is again four-to-six minutes long. Katelynn Lane represented Killdeer in this event. Her speech on wild horses earned her a well-deserved Silver rating.
Another very real-life event at District Leadership is the Job Interview CDE. Lily McFadden represented the chapter in this event. This event requires the participant to create a cover letter, resume, fill out an application, and engage in a mock interview. Lily earned a third-place Gold rating in this event.
Zane Pittsley and Payton Pavlenko were the duo that competed in the Demonstration event. They demonstrated how to construct an H-brace for a fence and earned a Bronze rating for their performance.
Freshman members have the opportunity to compete in a quiz on FFA called the Greenhand Quiz. Competing in this event were: Dale Chinn, Teigan Pavlenko, Bre Kamer, and Brooklynn Reiss. They earned a Silver team rating.
Sophomores through seniors can compete in the Quiz contest. This contest is a trivia quiz about the history, current events, winners and other information pertaining to North Dakota and National FFA. Competing in this event were Tommy Hall, Karly Bang, Katelin Chinn, Rachel Voigt, and Hannah Rebsom.
Individually, Hall and Rebsom both earned Silvers.
Earning golds were Katelin Chinn, Rachel Voigt, and Karly Bang. The team came away the as the First Place Gold team in the Quiz CDE, which qualifies them to compete at the state contest at the North Dakota State FFA Convention in June.
The last CDE of the day was Parliamentary Procedure. The chapter FFA officers compete in this event, demonstrating their ability to handle different situations and motions relating to parliamentary procedure and running a meeting.
The chapter officers are given a rating on their performance and are as follows: Shayly Brew, President – Silver; Lily McFadden, Vice President- Gold Officer of the Day; Katelynn Lane, Secretary- Gold; Katelin Chinn, Treasurer- Gold; Iris Dukart, Reporter-Gold Officer of the Day; Colby Dukart, Sentinel- Gold. The additional officers along were: Cate Fredericks- Parliamentarian; Kylee Boltz- Historian; and Liam McFadden- Chaplain.
The officers performed extremely well and were named the district Runner-Up. This is a gold rating and allowed them to compete at the state contest on Oct. 5 at the state Capitol in Bismarck.
It was a great day for the Killdeer FFA Chapter and the students should be excited to have achieved so much success, said Leier.
