Killdeer girls basketball finish season with win and loss

The Killdeer Cowgirls entered the Region 7 tournament seeded no. 4, just missing out on a first round bye.

On Friday, Feb. 20 Mandaree game for an opening round game, tip off was at 6 p.m. and the Cowgirls won handily.

Employing a staunch defense Killdeer was able to hold Mandaree to 25 points and game away with the victory 57-25.

Advancing to the quarter finals, Killdeer faced the no. 5 seed Beach. This game was a nail biter to the end.

The lady Buccaneers came out to play. Ending the first quarter with a nine point lead, the score was 20-11 when the second quarter started.

Killdeer fought back though, outscoring Beach 15-7, the Cowgirls cut the Buccaneer lead down to one point and ended the half with the scoreboard reading 27-26.

The third quarter was much more evenly matched, in fact by the time the fourth quarter started, each team had 38 points

The final quarter came down to the wire. With each team trading baskets the score was back and forth as the clocked ticked down to zero. Ultimately the game came down to one basket. The Cowgirls couldn’t muster up one more score and fell by two points 52-50, ending their season.

Leading the scoring column for Killdeer was Jessica Starr who had 14 that included two 3-pointer. Following closely behind Starr was Sydney Anderson who scored 13. Alison Scheetz also scored in double figures as she put up 10 points.

Jurnee Murray lead the way with eight assists on the evening and Starr grabbed 10 rebounds to finish the double-double.
