Killdeer rodeo club opens spring season on high note

Ryan Walker and Ty Truchan opened the first spring rodeo for the Killdeer Rodeo club in the high school division by winning first place in different events at the West Fargo Rodeo on April 28-29.

Walker won the bull riding competition on the first day of the rodeo. He placed third in bull riding on the second day.

Truchan took top honors by winning the steer wrestling competition on the second day.

Karly Bang also had a productive rodeo, placing in three events, including twice in cow cutting. Bang was 10th in breakaway roping and eighth in cow cutting on the first day. She then took sixth in barrel racing and fifth in cow cutting the second day.

Rope Smith placed in events on both days as well. He was second in steer wrestling the first day and, on the second day, fourth in team roping and 10th in tie-down roping.

Mason Bice also placed on both days. He was seventh in tie-down roping on the first day and third in team roping on the second day.

Other Killdeer rodeo club placers included: Bridgette Reiss (fifth in pole bending); Zane Pittsley (third in team roping); and Dawson Schmeling (fourth in team roping).

On the junior high side, Tyler Hansen, Cayden Kling, Kelly Bang and Myranda Reiss collected plenty of loot for the Killdeer rodeo club.

Hansen was first in chute dogging and first in ribbon roping on both days. He was also fourth in team roping and second in tie-down roping and boys all-around on the second day.

Kling was first in steers bareback riding on the first day, and on the second, placed second in steer bareback riding, fourth in team roping and fifth in breakaway roping.

Bang was second in goat tying, third in breakaway roping, fourth in team roping and girls all-around, and fifth in barrel racing on the first day. On the second day, she was third in team roping, eighth in breakaway roping and ninth in barrel racing.

Myranda Reiss was eight in pole bending on the first day and third in the event on the second day.
