The family run business began with a trailer, tables and a snow fence around its plants to one complete greenhouse and a second one slated for completion by next year.

The greenhouse is family run with Logan and Jenni Wallace getting help from their four daughters;

Cayli, Sheyanne, Megan and Kennedy. “The girls help with choosing plants. They think I am too excited about tomatoes and they are really excited about all the watermelons,” Jenni said. Jenni is excited about tomatoes and the greenhouse boasts 20 different varieties. Jenni commented that Megan is the watering fairy and year old Kennedy likes to smell everything. “We moved here to do better for ourselves and wanted to be part of the community. This is our home,” commented Logan about the decision to move to Killdeer and start a business.

Plants at Spring Creek are grown with North Dakota weather in mind. “Our plants are zoned for our area, especially the perennials, shrubs and trees. They come from Michigan and Minnesota and have survived a ND type winter. These trees won’t die after the first ND winter,” added Jenni. Almost all of the vegetables and flowers like marigolds were grown by the Wallaces.

“We grow them from seed in our garage. I have never been able to park in our garage but the grow lights can give you a nice tan,” joked Jenni. The Wallaces like to offer unique plants. They receive weekly shipments of plants and can special order if customers are looking for something different.

May 1 was their opening weekend and they doubled their sales from the previous year. Spring Creek Greenhouse has more than plants. Customers can bring in a planter of their choice and they can help you fill it. They also carry potting soil, hanging baskets, and gift certificates. They also offer a punch card for those frequent buying customers with money off on their purchases.

The Wallaces are hoping next year, with the completion of the second greenhouse, to offer gardening classes like bring your own planter night. “We are so excited about our continued growth,” added Jenni.

The Spring Creek Greenhouse is open Mon. – Sat. from 9am to 6pm and on Sun. Noon to 4pm. They can also be followed on their Facebook page, facebook.com/springcreekgreenhouse.
