Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge will host Kid’s Fishing Day June 1.

This is an excellent event for families to enjoy an outdoor activity and connect with nature on a National Wildlife Refuge.

Participants are asked to arrive at the Lake Ilo Park by 9:30 a.m. to register for this event. Fishing will take place along the shoreline, on the Lake Ilo dam, and from the fishing pier in the Lake Ilo Park from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a picnic lunch and door prizes from noon to 1 p.m.

Kids may bring their own fishing equipment if they wish. A limited supply of rods and reels will be available for loan from the Refuge, and bait will be provided for all participants – a donation from Andrus Outdoors in Dickinson.

This is free fishing weekend in North Dakota, which means that residents may fish without a license.

Several local sponsors have been very generous in providing funding and services for this event. These include: Daryl & Renae Dukart, Super Valu, Andrus Outdoors, Consolidated, Sons of Norway, Dunn County Ducks Unlimited, American Bank Center of Killdeer, McKenzie Electric, Bosch Lumber Company, Killdeer Vet Clinic, Farmers Union Oil, Prairie Implement, North Dakota Game and Fish Department and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Lake Ilo Park is located 1.5 miles west of Dunn Center, and .5 miles south of Highway 200. For more information call 701-548-8110 or 701-442-5474 ext.117.
