Lake Metigoshe to host National Qualifying Ice Fishing Tournament

Lake Metigoshe, Bottineau, ND will hold a NAIFC (North American Ice Fishing Circuit) Tournament Series National Qualifying Tournament in conjunction with the North Dakota Blue Gill Championship Jan. 3-5, 2014.Posted 12/19/13

All teams finishing in the top-10 at the Lake Metigoshe Qualifier automatically advance to the 2014 NAIFC Championship, to compete for the 2014 North American National Ice Fishing Champion.

The Metigoshe Tournament is open to the first 150 two- person teams that enter. NAIFC tournaments are competitive in nature similar to open water FLW event. Fishing boundaries are set: teams drill their own holes to locate fish.

Portable fish shelters are allowed with walking, ATVs and snowmobiles the modes of transportation. Tournament’s fishing hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 5, with a limit of 16 blue gills per team.

Mr. Ice Fishing, Dave Genz will be the featured speaker Jan. 3, at the Friday Night Seminar held at Twin Oaks Resort. The free Seminar, open to all, covers ice fishing topics from novice to advance.

From 5 to 7 p.m., NAIFC Pro Staff will explain and demonstrate the basic skills needed to ice fish. At 7 p.m., Genz will speak and discuss the cutting edge of the ice fishing world. There is no faster way for any fishermen… experienced or not… to learn and share the successful details of ice fishing than attending these free seminars.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, a “free” Kids Ice Camp will be held at 1 to 2 p.m., at the Twin Oaks Resort. At 2 p.m., kids and parents will go out on to Lake Metigoshe to use the latest in ice fishing equipment while receiving on the spot training.

All kids in attendance will receive a free fishing rod from HT Enterprises. Please dress for the weather!

Sunday at 2 p.m., the tournament Weigh-In will take place at the Twin Oaks Resort and is open to all. Fishing Hall of Famer Dave Genz will emcee the activities, as the NAIFC Metigoshe/ND Blue Gill Champions are crowned.
