‘Life is just a Rodeo’: 94th annual Killdeer Mountain Roundup

With the beautiful weather we had this past weekend, it was impossible not to find something to do! The lake called the name of many community members, but the 94th Annual Killdeer Mountain Roundup brought some of them back to town.

Sunday was the beginning of this amazing lineup of events. The FFA Alumni breakfast was held at the American Legion, and then Rodeo Slack events started in the evening.

Monday was a big day for the Roundup. Saddle Bronc, Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Tie Down Roping, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, and Bull Riding brought the crowd from near and far. The west-side hill and east-side stands were filled with onlookers ready to see what these men and women had to offer.

Following Monday’s events at the Rodeo grounds, there were many ways to celebrate this holiday weekend. Zeona Road, a band straight out of Nashville with South Dakota roots, performed at the High Plains Cultural Center. The Buckskin Bar and Grill and 2 7/8 Bar also had awesomely talented musical options for anyone that came to Killdeer.

Tuesday hosted its fair share of events with Rodeo Slack starting in the morning. The Dunn Center parade and picnic was a crowd pleaser. Plus, you could grab a bite to eat at the HPCC for the Fair Board BBQ for lunch. Then, the Killdeer parade in the afternoon got everyone pumped up for the 4th of July Rodeo action.

Due to the emergency drought conditions, the fireworks were cancelled, but everyone had a wonderful time. The Roundup Rodeo was a great way to celebrate America in Killdeer, North Dakota!
