Norbert “Shorty” Wilson, 87, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo. He was born Oct. 3, 1928 in Killdeer to Norbert E. and Ruby O. Wilson.
After graduation from high school, Shorty joined the U.S. Army where he served until his honorable discharge in 1951. Shorty was very proud of his military service. He continued to honor his fellow veterans by serving with the Military Funeral Honors Guard for many years.
On July 30, 1954, Shorty married Eileen Schuette in Bismarck. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on my construction sites. In 1977, the Wilsons moved to Brush, Colo., where shorty worked in the construction of the Pawnee Power Plant.
Shorty was proud to be a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was also a member of the International Order of Operating Engineers Union #9.
Shorty loved to visit with people. He especially enjoyed joking with everyone he met. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life.
Shorty is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eileen of Brush; one son, Gary (Sharon) Wilson, of Fort Morgan; two daughters, Roxan (Gerry) Sianez, of Riverdale, Utah, and Colleen Weigand of Fort Collins, Colo.
He is also survived by one sister, Joann Curry, of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Roger Wilson, of Garrison, N.D.; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Ruby Wilson, and a son-in-law.
Memorial service was held Aug. 13 at Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Colorado Patriot Guard and the Brush VFW/American Legion Honor Guard followed the service.
