Whether you’ve simply driven by or have a membership, everyone has heard about the Killdeer Aquatic and Wellness Center. It quickly became a staple to the community when it opened its doors on June 15, 2016.
Dunn County Herald
The building was built using surge funding and city sales tax. The city commission worked on the planning and design for a couple years with community input. Overall, the facility cost $7,000,000. Currently, the center has 310 members and on average has roughly 75-100 people come through the doors each day. The center is also home to the parks and recreation main office.
Killdeer Park and Recreation Director, James Mousseau, mentioned, “The center is a crown piece for Killdeer, and hopefully it will attract other business and people to consider residing in Killdeer. The community drives recreation centers and Killdeer is no different. Any events or activities that the community wants to see should be expressed. Future events include more movie nights, a run/ walk-athon, another self-paced tri-athalon, aquatics volleyball and basketball, aerobics classes, Christmas activities and more! It’s our intent to try to partner with Killdeer Public School to allow students access to the facility. We also are working on having Hilltop use the facility. We are proud to support our community and very thankful for the support we have received.”
Facility Operator, Hannah Braathen, put together the one year anniversary events which included an aquatic “Dive-In” movie night, cardboard boat races, and a free swim and gym day which included a free BBQ.
Overall the facility includes a 93,000 gallon pool (complete with 4, 25 yard lap lanes), water features (water slide, dump buckets, etc.). A 2,500 square foot cardio/ aerobics/weight room with state of the art Matrix equipment. Full men’s and women’s locker rooms, family locker rooms, and a community room (for rent) for birthday parties, meetings, etc.
Mousseau also expressed, “We want to thank all those who came out to our one year event and celebration. We appreciate the support and look forward to doing more!”
