The 3rd annual Fly- In/Drive-In was held at the Dunn County Airport Weydahl Field in Killdeer on Saturday, June 17th.
“The annual Fly-In was created to promote aviation in the community and show the public what renovations have been made to the Dunn County Airport. The airport won the award for Best General Aviation Airport in the state in 2015. The airport accommodates general aviation aircraft and corporate business jets. We typically sell more jet fuel than aviation fuel each month,” Mike Schollmeyer explained.
The annual flour drop contestants were Gregg and Mark Synnes. Gregg won the drop with his slow and steady approach, and Mark did some crowd wowing stunts. Thankfully the rain subsided for a short time to allow this fun event.
Despite a morning filled with rain, a few classic car owners braved the roads to turn out for the Drive-In portion of the event. The cars were put on display only by the local car club D.C. Cruisers. The car club will have a car show with awards for the best in show on August 5th near the Veteran’s Memorial, in Killdeer, from 10-2.
The Fly-In included bake sale fundraiser for the Dunn County Girl Scout Troop 85112, and the bake sale food was donated by local Girl Scout families. The proceeds from the bake sale will be used for badges, workshops, and camping trips. The activities for kids at the Fly-In were sponsored by the airport.
This was a wonderful family event, and hopefully it doesn’t rain next year, and more planes are able to make it to Killdeer.
