Resorting to Merriam Webster again, instead of political hyperbole, “rac-ism” is defined as “a belief that race is the primary de-terminant of human traits and capacities…

” And, in two glaring examples of textbook “racism”, in dia-logue, this past week, one personal and one presi-dential, the public dis-course veered sharply off-course again. First, with the obligatory disclaimer that an allegation is noth-ing more than that and that all criminals are innocent until proven guilty, what appears most-certainly true, is that a 3 stooges-lookalike in Charleston, North Carolina, slaugh-tered nine innocent people at a Bible study because he was a moronic, white trash, scum bag, bigot. Al-though, I should apologize because calling him the latter actually denigrates bags of scum which, may, in fact, perform some valu-able function. But, once again, I digress. Regardless, the fact that those church-goers were all African American and he was a Caucasian does not, rise to the level of the race war that both he, our President and the main-stream media seemingly would have you believe is raging in America. Mr. Dylann (2 “n’s” mind you since he is, obviously, too special to simply have his name spelled tradition-ally) Roof was a White Su-premacist, the classic defi-nition of old school racism. And, at the end of the day, we are all going to get to sit through months of this boob’s life story which, ab-sent the fact that he was a spree killer, should never be heard because, again, he isn’t special. Is he guilty? Well, a confession goes a long way in my book to say so. If so, he’s just a bigotted idiot who killed a bunch of people who were too scared to fight back. The guy simply deserves the needle-in-the-arm, do not pass go, do not collect $100 and stop printing his racist crap. His sick, twisted per-verted “reason” for killing these folks contributes nothing more to the discus-sion. And comparing his actions to the 2012 George Zimmerman stand-your-ground trial in Florida is no more a justification for Roof to kill innocent people (regardless of skin color) in Charlotte than the FBI’s actions at Ruby Ridge justified Timothy McVeigh’s bombing (and mass murder) in Okla-homa City back in April, 1995, like he claimed. Sim-ply put, if you’re wanting to go on a killing rampage, you’re going to find a rea-son regardless as to what other events inspire it. Second, the troubling aspect of this new “racism” came from our beloved President immediately after this shooting, “The fact that this took place in a black church obviously raises questions about a dark part of our history.” Despite this glaring lack of logic, CNN and the other talking heads immediately jumped on the bandwagon and compared “similari-ties” between Charleston and New York, Baltimore, and Ferguson. What the heck they had to do with Charleston I’m at a loss to comprehend unless we are saying that African-Amer-ican suspects who attack Caucasian police officers is/are as racist as Cauca-sian police officer who in-jure/ kill African-American citizens?? Flawed logic at best. The usual suspects im-mediately joined the Prez. in chanting his mantra. Hear our friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center, “Since 9/11, our country has been fixated on the threat of Jihadi ter-rorism. But the horrific tragedy at the Emanuel AME reminds us that the threat of homegrown do-mestic terrorism is very real.” Really, guys? And the Moe Howard clone’s spree killing equates with the global jihad because…? The last time I looked, the “jihad” is spread around the globe, is race-neutral, has killed thousands of in-nocent victims in the name of Allah; and, instead, Mr. Roof was just a local, do-mestic nut job born and bread in the good ‘ol USA who hated people because of the pigment in their skin. Because if that’s your litmus test, isn’t that going to be a lot harder now with Rachel Dolezal’s and Bruce Jenner’s definitions of race and gender? I mean, if you’re a self-respecting, racist spree killer who just goes by physical ap-pearance (or pundit who seeks to pigeon-hole their motivation), aren’t you just, well, running the risk that your victim/society doesn’t define themselves by YOUR definition? Con-fusing! The real problem here is our President’s lack of respect for his office. Like Bill Clinton, he has rel-egated the image of our Chief Executive to the lev-el of an illiterate huckster again. Some would have to say the last President Bush didn’t help much ei-ther but, at least, he wore a suit and “looked” presi-dential at the bully pulpit. Using slang on television, jacket off… it’s just not presidential. And, what is this nonsense of appear-ing on late night comedy shows or blogs to be pa-raded around like a show pony? I don’t want a Presi-dent who’s a regular guy…I want one that makes me proud to be an American regardless of skin color who maintains the dignity of that great office. But, this past weekend, in an interview with co-median Marc Maron on the podcast WTF (guess what that stands for), our Commander-in-Chief, ad-dressing the Roof killings in Charleston, “Racism, we are not cured of it. And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say ni**#r in public. That’s not the measure of whether rac-ism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societ-ies don’t, overnight, com-pletely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior.” Overnight, really? So you get to waive the “N word” around and embarrass your office (again) with the apparent justification being “past racism”? Also, sir, factu-ally, you understand that President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Procla-mation in 1863 (152 years ago), President Truman signed Executive Order 9981 (ending any official endorsement of racism) in 1948 (77 years ago), Brown vs Bd. of Education outlawed public discrimi-nation in 1954, Rosa Parks refused to sit in the back-seat of her bus in 1955, the Littlerock School desegre-gation incident and Mar-tin Luther King’s creation of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference both occurred in 1957 (I was born that year), the federal Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 (the same year that Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty began and race riots broke out across this country), and that you are African American and were elect-ed (twice)? Overnight? Re-ally? To continue to pander to malcontents by pretending that Dylann Roof is a typi-cal example of “white” ge-netic prejudice by stating that, “slavery’s legacy casts a long shadow and that’s STILL PART OF OUR DNA that’s passed on” is as ridiculously racist as saying that black snipers Lee Boyd Malvo and John Allen Muhammed (the DC snipers from 2002), who, between the two of them, shot 25 non-black victims (killing 16 of them) are typical examples of Afri-can- American prejudice based solely on a genetic predisposition to kill, i.e., “racism”. The truth is two-fold: there are always go-ing to be bigots…just like there are always going to be idiots but that’s NOT institutional; and the me-dia’s sole job is to sell ad-vertising by pandering to sensationalism. Disagree? I always told my kids, if you only watched televi-sion, you would think the only black guys out there were drug dealers, rappers and thugs; and the only white folks out there were hillbillies who played blue-grass music, wade around during floods and talk with a twang. The truth is most folks (regardless of skin color) are just trying to get by in this country and take care of their families. So, over the next year, when the media is publishing Mr. Roof’s “manifesto”, turn the channel and don’t give this churl the dignity of listening to his crap. PLEASE!
