Killdeer teacher Kayla Peake recently held a reading workshop in her classroom. Peake called it the readers’ restaurant because each student had a chance to “taste” the many different types of books. Peake had different stations set up with books that encompass different genres, writing styles, point of views, and topics. According to her handout, “The purpose for this restaurant is to get to expose you to some harsh realities of our world. True, they may not happen to you (hopefully not), but in reality what we think may not happen to us, in fact does.” The students were able to choose a book that fits their own personality and style, and this helps them gain more knowledge about different life situations.
