Richard Gegelman, 94, Lynn Haven, FL formerly of Halliday, ND died surrounded by family on June 9, 2016, at the Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer, ND.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT, Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at St. James Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, with Rev. Toby Heller officiating. Burial will follow at Defiance Cemetery, Dodge, ND.
Richard was born on the home place north of Dodge, ND on February 24, 1922, the youngest of eight children of Jacobina (Maier) and Anton Gegelman. He was baptized into Christ on April 2, 1922. Richard was raised and educated north of Dodge. On December 13, 1949 he was married to his loving wife of 66 years, Mardella Keller, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Halliday, ND. Richard spent majority of his life as a mechanic until 1979 where he worked for Bishop Construction at the Little Knife Gasification Plant until his retirement.
Richard loved learning new things and age was never a hindrance. His interests included family, gardening, rug weaving, knitting, reading, and tinkering to improve items. Some say he was born in the wrong era. He loved computers and was always interested in new technology. Richard’s greatest attribute was his gentle nature and was known for his exceptional kindness. He built life around his faith, which carried him home at the end.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mardella; one son, Delbert Gegelman of Gillette, WY; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Kevin Jones of Lynn Haven, FL and Bonnie and Neil Eckelberg of Killdeer, ND; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Donald; his parents; four brothers, Reinhold, Albert, William, Anton; three sisters, Anna Mohl, Ernestine Weisenberger and Olga Rehberg.
The family requests memorials be made to the giver’s choice in honor of Richard.
