Russell passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 at his home.

Russell was born September 27, 1950 in Richardton, the son of Nick and Frances (Osterwind) Dressler.  Growing up he attended Marshall Country School through the sixth grade. He then entered and graduated from Richardton Public School. Russ continued his education at the North Dakota State School of Science for two years, where he received his associate business degree.  He enlisted into the US Marine Corp in April of 1970, serving two years.  When he returned home, he entered NDSU and received his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture.  On August 1, 1975, Russell married Debra Johnson in Minot, ND.  They were blessed with two children, Darcy and Ty.  The family made their home on the Dressler ranch in the Knife River community.  Russ particularly loved children.  He had a gentle touch that could calm even the fussiest of babies, while putting many miles on that old rocking chair.  Most of all, Russ had a great love for his grandkids.  His smile grew larger every time one came around and he truly cherished their hugs and time together.  Russ enjoyed hunting, playing cards, good food, and good times. He also enjoyed his good friends with whom he had a lot of laughs. Russ never met a stranger. He had a warm heart and could always visit with anyone, at any time.  Russ enjoyed traveling with his wife to conventions. He also enjoyed one last special trip to Alaska for salmon fishing with Ty.  He enjoyed reading as a hobby and seldom sat down anywhere without a book in his hand.  Russ loved driving semi and was quick to speak up for the safety and professionalism of those in the industry.  He spent his last years employed with Dunn County and was proud to be a part of the road crew. Russ was an active member of the Angus Association, Marshall Lutheran Church, and the Richardton and Dodge saddle clubs.

Russ was a simple man who didn’t ask for much for himself but wanted the very best for his family, especially his wife.  He was very proud of the Dressler Ranch and was his happiest sitting in an old pickup looking out over the Knife River or the “High Hills.”  He had a knack for creating immediate friendships wherever he went and truly enjoyed socializing with friends, neighbors, or strangers alike.

As a proud Marine Corps veteran of the war in Vietnam, he was especially proud of his family who are serving our country today.  Russ had an immediate connection to all younger servicemen and servicewomen and would lend an ear or helping hand to anyone in troubled waters.

Russell is survived by his wife, Debra; son, Ty (Daneen) and their children, Alayna, Irelynn, Parker; daughter, Darcy and her children, Ariana, Breeana, Cole; brothers, Kent (Mona) and Kelly (Kim) of Richardton; sister, Linda (Don) Staudinger of Dickinson; mother in-law, Alice Johnson; numerous aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Lena Dressler; infant sister; nephew, Kelsey Dressler.
