Season has sprung for Spring sports

The basketballs are all stored away and wrestling gear tucked away.

DUNN COUNTY HERALD

The gymnasiums are dark. Well, sort of. Mother Nature has wreaked havoc so much of the Spring sports teams have been forced to go inside.

It’s time to break out the spikes and the hurdles, the pole vault poles and high jump pits, the javelins and shot puts.

And don’t forget the drivers and the putters.

Yes, and there’s the Stetsons and the Ropers.

Yep, with Spring officially upon us, the sports season has sprung.

The track and field season started in late February.

Golf and rodeo are not far behind.

Runners on your mark.

Set.

Go.

Fore.

Ride ‘em, Cowboy.

You’re going to hear those words a lot this spring.

The Killdeer girls track team has 26 girls, including 16 letter winners and five state qualifiers.

Sydney Andersen and Shawnee Hansen won state medals last year, as did the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays teams.

The boys team has 21 on the squad, including 16 letter winners.

State qualifiers Hoyt Zander, Dillan Jepson, Cole Dukart and Alex Sadowsky return.

Zander placed fourth at the state meet last year.

The golf team has five girls and 10 boys on the squad.

According to head coach Cindy Hanson, the team will have about 10 letter winners back from last year, although that could change when practice starts on March 28.
