Shirley A. Dvorak

Shirley passed away surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
Shirley was born Aug. 20, 1954 in Dickinson, the daughter of George and Evelyn (Ficek) Miller. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Manning and attended country school. Shirley graduated from Trinity High School with the class of 1972. During her high school days, she met the love of her life, Gene Dvorak and they were married on Sept. 20, 1972 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Together, they made their home on the Dvorak family ranch. They proudly raised their family of four on the Hills Valley Ranch. Shirley was a loving wife and mom. She worked for the Dunn County Clerk of Courts Registrar of Deeds for over 15 years. In 2006, Shirley and Gene moved to Dickinson where she worked at Deister Ward and Witcher doing abstract and title work. They both retired in 2015.
Shirley will be remembered as an honest, fun-loving, hard-working mom that always put others before herself. Her life revolved around her grandchildren. Shirley’s faith was very important to her and was evident in how she lived her life. This provided her strength and HOPE throughout her battle with cancer. Her contagious smile and heartfelt hugs will be greatly missed. Shirley enjoyed going to the PBR, baking, gardening, canning and flowers were her passion. She loved life and enjoyed attending every sporting, school and 4-H activity her kids were involved in. She loved fishing, playing cards, camping, boating, skiing, and traveling on family vacations. Shirley reluctantly enjoyed joining Gene in his various singing shenanigans and entertaining all. She loved cooking and baking, making sure no one left hungry. Shirley was a 4-H leader for over 25 years and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Hillside Horizon Homemakers Club, Elks, Farm Bureau, and Stockmen’s Association.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gene of Dickinson; four children and her dozen grandchildren: Wendi (Jeff) Anderson of Denver; and their children, Tienna, Tava and Ryker; Kodi (Martin) Anchondo of Dickinson; and their children, Kalista, Mason and Alex; Weston (Teresa) Dvorak of Manning; and their children, Audrey, Tessa, Landry and Layna; Kylee (Justin) Hartman of Arvada, Colo.; and their children, Adalyn and Tyce; her parents George and Evelyn Miller; one sister, Shari Heiser of Denver; three brothers, DuWayne (Kris) Miller of Britton, S.D., Del (Cindy) Miller of Dickinson, DeLaine Miller of Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Aggie (Frank) Bogunia and Inka Bogunia both of Detroit; godchildren, Aaron Dvorak, Kari Stark and Shannon Miller; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
She is preceded in death by all of her grandparents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emma and Stanley Dvorak; mother-in-law, Hedy Bogunia; brother-in-law, Richard Bogunia; and godchild, Anjal Keiser.
