It wasn’t the start that the Killdeer boys basketball team was hoping for, but it was one Dickinson Trinity delivered in a 77-35 victory in the first round of the 46th Annual Roughrider Boys Class B Tournament on Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus Activities Center in Dickinson.

The Titans, who are ranked second in the recent NDAPSSA Class B poll, is seeking their third straight Roughrider championship. And they came in on a high note, after having defeated seventh-ranked Shiloh Christian last week.
And that roll continued from the opening tip off and didn’t stop until the final buzzer. Dickinson Trinity scored the game’s first 16 points and held a 21-9 edge at the end of the first quarter and by halftime, it was pretty much over with the Titans holding a 47-20 lead.
The young Cowboys didn’t have an answer for the Titans’ trio of Noah Stickler, Shawn Stoltz and Lucas Jones, who combined for 48 points. Stickler led the way with 20, followed by 17 from Stoltz and 11 by Jones.
Killdeer was paced by Garrett LeMieux, Dawson Schmeling and Alex Sadowsky, who combined for 25 points in its lid-lifter. LeMieux and Schmeling each had nine and Sadowsky had seven. Hoyt Zander also added five points for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys, whose season opener against New Town was postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, dropped to 0-1 and were scheduled to play on Thursday in the consolation semifinals against New England.
