Velma Amelia Sailer was born on Nov. 17, 1931, the daughter of Leonard and Katie (Roesler) Sailer near Dodge, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Dodge, graduating from high school in 1949. Velma moved to Bismarck and began working as a bookkeeper at Builders Supply Co. Velma took a blind date with a young man from Sims, N.D.named Jack. Over the years Velma stood alongside her husband, Jack and supported his many years of public service and sacrifices they both gave.
