VICTOR WEISZ, 82, of Halliday, entered his Heavenly Home on September 16, 2014, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM MDT, Monday, September 22, 2014, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Halliday, with Pastors John and Rachel Simonson officiating. Burial will follow at the Halliday City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6:30 PM MDT, Sunday, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Halliday, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.
Victor was born on December 22, 1931, north of Halliday, to Peter and Elsie (Breitling) Weisz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Dodge. Victor was raised and educated at a country school, graduating from Halliday High School in 1949. In 1953 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served on an inspection team until March 1955. During that time he spent 18 months in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, Victor returned to the family farm in Halliday. On October 26, 1955, he married Norma Weidner at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kronthal, rural Beulah. Together they farmed the family farm for three years at which time they bought a neighboring farm where they lived until 1990, when their son, Kenny and Susi bought the farm. Victor continued to help on the farm for many years to follow. Victor and Norma moved to Halliday where they have lived since.
He was very involved with his community and church, including: Sunday School Superintendent and church council, charter member of the Halliday Rural Fire Department, Halliday Elevator Board, Halliday Park Board, Union Bank Board, cooked the meat for the Halliday Fall Festival BBQ for 24 years and chaplain for the American Legion. Victor loved to do leather work, golf, play the Banjo, play cards, sing in the church choir, dance, watch NASCAR racing, hunt, fish and bowl.
Victor is survived by his wife, Norma, of 58 years, of Halliday; daughter, Karen (John) Sickler of rural Gladstone, ND; son, Kenneth (SusAnn) Weisz of rural Halliday; daughter, Kimberly (Ken) Weisenberger of Dickinson, ND; six grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Sickler, Justin (Dena) Sickler, Carrie Weisz (special friend, Wayne Seeman), Megan (Justin) Berger, Daniel Weisz, Aaron Weisz (fiancé, Jenna Erlandson; two great-grandsons, Adam and Justin; one brother, Larry (Jeanette) Weisz of Bismarck, ND; two sisters-in-law, Laverne Tobin of Pasco, WA and Ardella Weidner of Kennewick, WA; aunts, Alma Isaak of Beulah and Irene Backfish of Hazen; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law.
