Weather key reason why Killdeer track teams on home track today

The weather has played a role for the Killdeer High School track and field teams.

They will be competing on their home track today instead of travelling to Minot State University for an indoor meet.

Coaches opted for some home cooking and host their own meet instead of making the long three-hour trip for their season opener in Minot.

The Cowboys will be hosting Hazen and New England, with others team possible, said Killdeer girls head coach Janis Harris.

The track meet is scheduled to get started at 1:30 p.m. with the javelin. The other field events will follow at 2 p.m. and the running events at 3 p.m.

The teams were actually scheduled to open their season in Bowman on Tuesday. But rain forced Bowman officials to cancel the meet.

So, the teams spent Tuesday afternoon stretching and warming up on their own football field. The weather was dreary and threatening more rain.

Some worked in groups, others in tandem, preparing for yet another day competing against teammates.

Some smiled and laughed as they jogged around the track, but it was a sad smile. They wanted to be running on another track in another town.
