Youth volunteers to pick up trash at Killdeer playground

Dane Jepson was enjoying his recess time one day last week when he noticed some trash on the playground at Killdeer School.

It bugged him.

So the 8-year-old second-grader did something about it. He asked a teacher who had recess duty if he could clean up the trash. After getting the green light, Jepson went to work.

Instead of playing with his friends, Jepson collected plastic and styrofoam pieces from the construction job that had blown onto the playground. He made two trips to the trash bin.

“I just kind of wanted to do it,” Jepson said. “It was nothing.”

Nothing, except a shining example of a young boy caring for his school.
