Justina “Tena” R. Schekorsky, 92, Bismarck, died March 11 at the Baptist Home, Bismarck. Services were held March 14 at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating.
Visitation was held Thursday at the Baptist Home, Bismarck, and Thursday at the church.
Justina Rosina Keller was born to Jacob and Louisa (Knoll) Keller on June 24, 1920, in Halliday, North Dakota. Tena attended school in Halliday and lived on the family land until marrying Albert Schekorsky in Golden Valley, North Dakota on October 25, 1940. Tena and Albert then moved to a farm south of Werner, North Dakota. On October 2, 1953 they left the farm and moved to Bismarck, and Tena took a job at Master Cleaners, where she worked for five years. She then held a job at the Super Valu Stores warehouse for 21 years.
Upon retirement, Tena and Albert lived a life to be envied with much traveling and time with family and friends. They made the most of life, filling days with coffee at the mall, card parties, and a love of dancing. Winters were spent in the RV soaking up the sunshine of the South, and the sparkle of casinos. Tena took delight in shows and trying her luck at penny slots. The bells she collected from their many adventures were always good to start a story.
Summers brought them back to North Dakota for camping, lake fishing, and cherry picking trips to Washington. When they took a break from the road, Tena’s family always knew where to find the treats. Chokecherry jelly, popcorn balls, and so many goodies were always on hand. Even in her last years, spent at the Baptist Home Care Center, Tena still loved the holidays and relished homemade meals. She stayed very active, attending all social events including bingo, music, church, and bible study.
Tena is survived by her sister Frieda Rehberg, sister –in –law Lenora Kuntz, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Tena was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Louisa, husband Albert, sisters Johanna, Hilda, Ida, and brothers Gotthilf, and Bill.
