They beat the New England Tigers in the first round of the Roughrider Tourney by a 52-38 count. The win ups the seasonal mark to 2-0.

Balance was a key for the girls as they had not only a number of players contribute in statistical areas but had many girls play a number of minutes as well. The Cowboys had a very sound first quarter as they jumped out to a 16-7 lead before heading into the halftime break up 27-12.

Defensive pressure was a key as the Cowboys didn’t let the struggling Tigers anywhere near a good shot. On the offensive side, Kelsey Knutson came up big with 12 points in twenty minutes of action. The senior was 6 of 9 from the field and also had 4 rebounds on the night.

Alison Scheetz also had a nice night as the guard used 25 minutes to put 10 points on the board. Morgan LeMieux, a returning starter, finished with 9 points and 6 boards while teammate Jessica Starr finished with 6 points and a team leading 9 rebounds.

Keauna Fox also hit for 6 points while teammates Ashley Brew had 5 and Jurnee Murray and Lizzy Strommen each had two.

The teams battled to a standoff in the second half of action as the Tigers actually outscored the Cowboys 26-25 but Killdeer’s first half effort was too much to overcome.
