Killdeer wrestlers take home trophies from Hettinger Classic

The Killdeer Cowboy Wrestlers traveled to Hettinger Jan. 4-5 to compete in the Hettinger Classic Wrestling Tournament.

HETTINGER – Wrestlers from four states – North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming – all competed in the tournament. Eight wrestlers from Killdeer completed.

Cole Dukart wrestled in the 113-pound weight class. Cole wrestled hard to end the day in the consolation round and fell to Braden Jorgenson of Bowman Co./Beach with a score of 12 to 4.

Jace Horner wrestled 120-pounds and ended the tournament in sixth place in the consolation round when he lost 2 to 0 to Matt Carlson of Bowman Co./Beach.

Derek Tabor (126-pounds) took home third place when he wrestled his way into the semi-finals and was pinned by Tyrell Lawrence of Moorcroft, Wyo. He then came back and beat Colton Jore from Watford City with a major decision of 16 to 2 to bring home third place.

Tanner Rohde (132-pounds) also wrestled his way into the semi-finals and fell the first round of the semis to Garrett Keegan of CEB/Dupree, SD by a major decision of 17 to 1. Rohde then came back and wrestled Linton’s Andrew Leier and brought home third place by winning 8 to 4.

Dane Larsen and David Arthur both wrestled in the 138-pound weight class. David Arthur was hurt on Friday, Jan. 4 so was not able to wrestle in the remainder of the tournament. Dane Larsen wrestled his way into the consolation round and ended up falling to Rylan Jacob of Linton.

Daniel Arthur wrestled at the 152-pound weight class and wrestled his way into the consolation round to fall to his opponent.

David Dukart wrestled at the 195-pound weight class and brought home the first place trophy.

Dukart made his way to the semi finals by beating Denby Lueck with a score of 8 to 3. Then Dukart paired up with Zach Rehm of Baker for the second time and beat him with a score of 4 to 2 in overtime for the first place win.

The Killdeer Cowboys will travel to Rugby Jan. 11-12 for the Rugby Tournament. On Jan. 15 they will be in New Salem for the New Salem Tri and on Jan. 13 will travel to Beulah for a Dual.
