Dickinson State University’s (DSU) very own literary and art magazine, Impressions, is now accepting submissions for its 2017 edition. Faculty, staff, students and alumni of Dickinson State are encouraged to submit their written and visual art pieces, including poetry, fiction or nonfiction, photography and two-dimensional artwork. This is the second year that regional high school students are also being encouraged to submit their work.
Impressions has been produced by DSU students since 1989. The magazine has a longstanding goal of showcasing creative talents of those associated with DSU, as well as those of potential Blue Hawks.
“We hope to attract a wide range of submissions again this year, including work from DSU students, faculty, staff and alumni. We are also excited to include regional high school art and writing as part of our second annual contest,” said Dr. Peter Grimes, faculty advisor for Impressions.
Current Dickinson State students are eligible to win $100 cash prize for first place and a runner-up prize of $50 in each category (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, photography and two-dimensional art). High school students are eligible to win cash prizes of $50 for first place and $25 for the runner-up in the categories of visual art (photography and two-dimensional art) and writing (fiction, nonfiction and poetry).
All subjects are welcome, so long as they are treated with literary or artistic purpose, and will be considered for publication. Submissions will be commented on by the magazine’s staff and a consensus must be reached. No single editor’s taste will determine which submissions are published.
The submission deadline is Feb. 15. Writing and visual art may be submitted electronically using the submission form at www.dickinsonstate.edu/impressions. For an alternative method of submission, please contact Dr. Peter Grimes at email@example.com.
