Killdeer Juniors of Troop 85112 get involved with state government, laws
Killdeer Juniors of Troop 85112 had the opportunity to visit the ND State Capitol on Friday, April 5.
The Girl Scouts were working towards their Inside Government badge, which required them to get involved with the government, understand the branches, and look into laws.
They completed their badge requirements and more. The Juniors arrived at the ND State Capitol and had a very fun and knowledgable tour.
During the tour they learned about the different branches of the government and their rolls, the process of a bill, and a lot of history about laws, the State Capitol building, and amazing people of North Dakota.
During the tour the Juniors met with several legislators and had the opportunity to talk to them about what they do and to ask them questions.
They met with Senator Judy Lee and she graciously invited us to her committee meeting. It was interesting for the Girl Scouts to listen to the discussion during the meeting.
Sentor Lee explained that the result of this meeting will be taken to the full Senate with the committee’s recommendations.
The Friday afternoon legislative session started at 12:30 sharp.
Each Junior had the opportunity to sit with a Senator during the session. Just before the session began our Troop had their pictures taken on the Senate floor with Lt. Governor Brent Sanford, Senator Jay Elkin, Senator Richard Wardner, Representative Luke Simons and Senator Jessica Unruh.
After the session the Juniors headed out to the State Capitol Step where they had one last picture taken for the day.
